When it gets hot like this, I think about the summer days I spent helping Charlie in the garden. We’d be hoein’ up a row of potatoes or something, and he’d stop, lean on the end of the handle, pull out his handkerchief, and say “I’m about petered out.” We’d take a break and head to the shade for a minute under the cedar tree. When he’d caught his breath, we’d take a few more steps to the rain barrel, and he’d dip his hand in and water his face. Then he’d dip again and drink from the palm of his hand.
Before long, we’d be back to our task, and we’d work until he was fully petered out.
The Great Debate
Are you a fan of the Deviled Egg, or what I call The Devil’s Cackleberry? Or, are you more partial to Potato Salad? Now I know Potato Salad can run the gamut from white to yellow and cold to hot, but for this I’m talking a traditional yellow cold potato salad.
My recipes for each are similar, which means they are yellow, tangy, with a slight sweetness to them.
Last week’s poll shows that half of you make a Mater Sandwich first, while just a quarter of you go for a BLT. Now the other quarter don’t like tomatoes, and I’m sorry, but I don’t understand you. But, you know what, the only thing I have to understand is how many more tomatoes I get to eat!
